An inner lining is flooded in Basel

A new cultural building is under construction in the up-and-coming St. Johann district of Basel. The Natural History Museum Basel and the State Archives of Basel-Stadt will be sharing the structure in the future. Marti Basel is erecting the inner lining of this forward-looking new building.

Saint Barbara is the patron saint of miners. The celebration of Barbara takes place on 4 December, her name day, at underground mines all across the world. It is, of course, also celebrated at the Marti Group’s tunnel construction sites.

BIM-to-field during the new construction of the Aarau cantonal hospital

The new construction of the “Dreiklang” hospital project in Aarau is in full swing. The work on the inner lining will require a total of roughly 18 months. Marti is working completely digitally on this large construction site using the BIM-to-field method.

Breakthrough at the Ritom inclined shaft

The Ritom power plant in Ticino, which was built in 1920 and is located only a few kilometers from the Gotthard Tunnel, is in need of renewal. Since 2018, a number of contractors from the Marti Group have been working on this overall complex renovation on behalf of Ritom SA. In February 2022, Marti will pass an important milestone with the breakthrough of the inclined shaft to Lake Ritom.

Building where others enjoy the view

With its peak standing at over 3,000 metres above sea level, the Titlis is one of Switzerland’s most internationally renowned destinations for excursions. In order to secure and further develop the tourist infrastructure at the summit in the long term, the TITLIS project is being launched under the management of Titlis Bergbahnen. The renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron has been commissioned to design the structures to be built on the summit in the future in a master plan. A particular emphasis is being placed on utilising sustainable construction methods that protect the sensitive Alpine region in the best possible way.

Gotthard Second Tube: Extensive Works with a Focus on Sustainability

Marti’s Ticino story continues with the construction of the second Gotthard road tunnel. This follows the building of the Ritom inclined shaft, designed to increase the production capacity of the eponymous hydroelectric power plant. This second tunnel, scheduled to open to traffic in 2030, will allow traffic flow to be maintained during the necessary refurbishment of the first tube, which has been open to traffic since 1980.

Important Preparatory Work for the Second Gotthard Tube at the South Access Gallery

The second Gotthard road tube will be constructed over the next few years. Since the beginning of 2021, the Marti Group has been hard at work on access tunnel 343, the Gotthard South access gallery at the South Portal in Airolo. The tunnel boring machine reached 2,000 m in February 2023, and tunneling operations will have reached 5,000 m by the summer.

New Mythenquai 20/28 Replacement Building – House-in-House Transformation

Swiss Re’s new Lake Mythenquai 20/28 replacement building is taking shape where the building by the name of Mythenschloss once stood on the beach named Mythenquai. From the previous building, only the diaphragm walls and facade will remain. Marti Zurich is the lead consortium partner for the construction work.

Project track replacement in the Lötschberg summit tunnel completed

ARGE Marti LBST has been working in the Lötschberg summit tunnel since 2018, replacing the existing ballasted track with a slab track. The over-100-year-old, 14.6 km rail tunnel between Kandersteg and Goppenstein connects the cantons of Bern and Valais. It is the heart of Lötschberg mountain railway from Spiez to Brig. In August 2023, Marti installed the last meters of track, then set and cast the golden crosstie as the symbolic conclusion of the project.

Renovation and extension of the EWZ main building in Herdern

The ewz-Herdern project aims to renovate, expand, and modernize the main building of ewz (Electricity Works of the City of Zurich) to meet today's safety and energy efficiency requirements. This renovation is set against the backdrop of buildings in Switzerland consuming 41% of the energy. Renovation and refurbishment are therefore essential to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.

The tunnel boring machine in Airolo is ready for use

The official green light for excavation of the Gotthard South access tunnel (lot 343) took place with a special ceremony in Airolo on June 9, 2022. The cutting wheel of the pink tunnel boring machine was still symbolically turning in front of the portal on this festive occasion. It will soon carry out its work inside the launch tube, drilling some 5 km to the north.

Tunnel breakthrough in the Sihl Valley: precision and teamwork to safeguard against flooding in the region

A large part of Zurich’s city centre is situated on the alluvial cone of the Sihl river. Were the Sihl to break its banks, massive flood damage could result. The city narrowly escaped disaster in 2005, prompting the Zurich cantonal government to commission the construction of a drainage relief tunnel. Its purpose in the event of high water is to divert the excess from the Sihl directly into Lake Zurich and thus protect the city centre from flooding.
