Belchen Tunnel Renovation, A2
Hägendorf, Switzerland
The A2 national freeway crosses the Jura mountains between the cantons of Solothurn and Basel through the Belchen Tunnel. The geology was increasingly damaging the two existing tunnel tubes from the 1960s. This meant they had to be renovated. To minimize the associated traffic congestion, a third tube was built in the form of the Belchen renovation tunnel. The Marti Belchen consortium was heavily involved in the construction.
